| Dear ECHIC members, We are delighted to announce the following initiatives: Posthuman Convergences: Theories and Methodologies Utrecht Summer School course by prof. Rosi Braidotti 17 August 2020 – 21 August 2020 ( 1 week ) Deadline: June 1 2020 In spite of the difficult and uncertain circumstances at the moment, Utrecht University confirms that the 2020 Summer School course ‘Posthuman Convergences’ will proceed as planned, though in a different format, with some students physically present in the classroom, holding the required social distance, and others following the course online. In order to evaluate posthuman convergences, the course will present, explore and assess the defining features of a selected number of fields within the fast-growing Posthumanities, such as the Environmental, Digital and Medical Humanities. Mindful of the differences in power and access that structure the debate on the posthuman, the course will also investigate how posthuman knowledge(s) can assist us in moving beyond the patterns of exclusion of the sexualised, racialised and naturalised “others” that were not recognised as belonging to humanity and were also disqualified as subjects of knowledge. Special attention will also be given to the continuing efforts to learn to think beyond anthropocentrism. Apply now via the Utrecht Summer School web page. Find the call for applications here Conference: Revitalising Democracy in Times of Division – The Role of Social Sciences and Humanities Deadline for submission of posters: 8 June 2020 The German EU council presidency conference “Revitalising Democracy in Times of Division – The Role of Social Sciences and Humanities” will take place on 28 and 29 October 2020 in Bonn. This conference will provide an international platform for academia, research policymakers, and stakeholders from civil society to discuss how research results can be transferred to actors outside academia. Furthermore, the conference will debate new, challenging research questions related to the topic of democracy that need to be addressed in the future. The organisers invite the submission of posters of currently running projects on democracy, social divisions, or social cohesion to be showcased during a dedicated poster and project exhibition held during the conference. Projects of selected posters will be invited to briefly present their research during the afternoon plenary session on 28 October, and to further share the outcomes of their research during the exhibition.The registration process is expected to open in June 2020. The deadline for submission of posters has been extended to 8 June 2020. More information on the call for posters can be found here.
