Annual symposium, Berlin, 23-26 June

The position of Europe in the world is currently being reshaped in a radical way. What role can or should the humanities play in their response to these developments? To address this question, the annual symposium of ECHIC will focus on the work of the humanities in European diplomacy and paradiplomacy.

We seek to explore how scholarship in the humanities provides unique insights into diplomacy by illuminating the cultural, historical, and social dimensions that underpin effective international relations. In addition, we aim to examine the role of the humanities in the creation of soft-power strategies and global policy initiatives. We hope that our discussion will highlight how humanities-based research has had and continues to have a transformative impact on diplomatic actions and cross-cultural dialogue, for better or worse.

If your institution is a member of ECHIC and you are interested in joining this symposium at the Harnack House in Berlin as a speaker, respondent, or participant, we would like to hear from you by the end of March (info@echic.org). This gathering will take place on 25 June in the afternoon and will be part of the larger annual meeting of the Consortium of Humanities Centres and Institutes (Berlin, 23-26 June), which will revolve around “Resentment and the Work of the Humanities.”
