Inside/OUT. A European Conference for the Humanities, 5-7 April 2017, Edinburgh
The 2017 ECHIC Conference will take place in Edinburgh on 5-7 April 2017, under the topic of Inside/OUT. The Conference will begin on Wednesday lunchtime with a buffet lunch offered by IASH in the Scottish Parliament building. This will be followed by the ECHIC AGM which is open to existing ECHIC members (directors/managers, etc.) and to those interested in joining ECHIC. This will be followed by a networking event which will focus on the challenges to humanities centres and interdisciplinary humanistic studies at the present time. Participants will include, in addition to ECHIC Directors and staff, senior colleagues (Research Directors, Deans, Vice Principals, etc.) from across the humanities in Scotland, and representatives of the Irish Humanities Alliance.
The conference will continue with a full day of panel sessions, plenary speakers and roundtables on Thursday 6 April, rounded off with a conference dinner. Friday will be half a day, with plenary speakers and panel sessions, followed by lunch. This will take place at the John MacIntyre Centre, which is one of the University of Edinburgh’s conference facilities.
We would be particularly interested in hearing from Directors and others who want to contribute to the conference through presentations or posters, or other forms of invitation.
A website is now in place. A call for contributions is available on the website. This conference should be of interest to anyone concerned about interdisciplinary studies in the humanities, including early career fellows and researchers, or those interested in a fellowship period in a Centre or Institute. Specific sessions will be aimed at early career researchers and they will benefit from a reduced registration rate.
So far we have confirmed one plenary speaker: Prof JP Singh, recently appointed Director of the Centre for Cultural Relations at the University of Edinburgh and a world renowned expert on culture, arts and political economy.
More will follow and the website will be kept up to date with details of registration, accommodation (for various budgets), the programme and the location of the conference once finally confirmed.
Please put this call out through your social media networks. @IASH_Edinburgh will be tweeting about it, so please do retweet us.
